RYAN HIRAOKA

Ryan Hiraoka is a Na Hoku Hanohano award winning songwriter, music producer and recording artist from the Big Island of Hawaiʻi. With over 100 songs released, Ryan’s music has been streamed millions of times around the world. Ryan considers himself an “honest songwriter with a positive island vibe” as his music is heavily influenced by the place he comes from and the experiences that come with it. Through his record label, “Rubbah Slippah Productions LLC,” Ryan has been releasing original island music since 2005.

Born and raised in Honokaʻa on the Hamakua coast of the Big Island of Hawaiʻi, Ryan first got his start as a bass player for the world renowned Honokaʻa jazz band under the direction of Grammy signature school winning educator Gary Washburn. This is where he met guitarist Jon Hart and now Grammy award winning drummer Kamakoa Lindsey-Asing. Together they formed a blues band called "Strange Groove." As freshman in high school, the band toured the Big Island night club scene and quickly became a local success. The boys then teamed up with Jesse Ho'opai, Darrell "Bulla" Kanekoa, and Jeremy Carvalho to form a reggae band called "Kane O Kaleo." As a reggae act, they were able to share the stage with many of Hawaiʻi's biggest names.

Following high school, Ryan received his Bachelors of Arts in Music from the University of Hawaiʻi at Manoa. During this time, Ryan continued to make a name for himself while he studied up on every aspect of the music business. Using what he learned, Ryan was able to remain independent and retain 100% ownership of all his music. Acting as his own record label and music publisher, Ryan has had his music licensed in numerous international tv ads and mainstream tv shows. With the completion of his new “RSP Studio,” Ryan is on track to become one of Hawaiʻi’s most influential music makers.
