Ryan Hiraoka is a Na Hoku Hanohano award winning recording artist and music producer from the Big Island of Hawaii. Born and raised in Honokaa on the Hamakua coast, Ryan has always been a small town boy with big dreams. Ryan first got his start as a bass player for the world renowned Honokaa jazz band under the direction of Grammy signature school winning educator Gary Washburn. This is where he met guitarist Jon Hart and now Grammy award winning drummer Kamakoa Lindsey-Asing. Together they formed a blues group called "Strange Groove." As freshman in high school, the band toured the Big Island night club scene and quickly became a local success. The boys then teamed up with high school friends Jesse Ho'opai, Darrell "Bulla" Kanekoa, and Jeremy Carvalho to form a reggae group called "Kane O Kaleo." As a reggae act, they were able to perform as openers for many of Hawaii's biggest names.
A few years later, Ryan began performing regularly as a bass player for RJ Kaneao, Pomai and Leoka, and Damon Williams. As well as temporarily sharing the stage with acts like ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro, reggae rap pioneers B.E.T., island hit makers The Manao Company and the legendary Fiji. After graduating from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a BA in Music, Ryan formed his own music production company and record label called "Rubbah Slippah Productions." Established in 2005, "RSP" has been an influential part of Hawaii's music scene and continues to push the industry forward as one of the leading brands of Island Music in the digital era.
Ryan has produced music for many of Hawaii's top recording artists such as Bruddah Waltah, Ilona Irvine, Sudden Rush, Pomai Longakit, and Damon Williams. RSP has helped to launch the careers of Big island recording artists such as Maelan Abran, Mark Saito, Preston Lee, Micah De Aguiar, and Rappa Nui. Ryan is currently making a name for himself as a song writer and has co-written songs with national acts such as Katie Herzig, Brian Fennel, and Richard Harris. Ryan has also done vocal work for DJ Cheapshot and the Math Club. Ryan's music can be heard on national tv show "Sleepy Hallow," Neflix show "Terrace House: Aloha State," an "Ancestry DNA" advertisement in Canada, and a "Vivo Smartphone" advertisement in the Philippines featuring NBA superstar Steph Curry.
